Spurs transfer: Report claims fifth-place side overseas want £80k-a-week star; could start making move in next few days

Napoli are interested in Moussa Sissoko in the transfer window and could start pressing ahead with a move for the Spurs star in the coming days, according to a report from Sky Italia.

Sissoko played more of a peripheral role for Tottenham this past season. He only made 15 starts in the Premier League, while he made a further 10 appearances from the bench.

There have been suggestions that the 31-year-old could move this summer. And it seems that Napoli are weighing up offering him the chance to move to Italy.

According to Sky Italia, the Serie A side want the Frenchman, and it is claimed that they could step up their interest in the next few days.

Prospect of Sissoko transfer may divide Spurs fans

It remains to be seen how Spurs respond to a bid for Sissoko. He is arguably a good player to have in the squad.

He can play in a variety of roles and he has previously silenced his doubters in North London.

But much may depend on Paulo Fonseca, who looks set to come in as the club’s new manager.

Fonseca may welcome the chance to offload some of the current squad. They did not have the best campaign last year, and he may be in favour of Fabio Paratici bolstering the transfer kitty by moving some players on.

Sissoko earns £80,000-a-week, according to Spotrac. So even if he does not attract the largest transfer fee, his exit would clear a lot of space on the wage bill.

Unfortunately, Sissoko is at an age where his value is only likely to decrease. He turns 32 in the next couple of months.

Having said that, Paratici and Fonseca may yet decide that any transfer fee on the table would not making cashing in worthwhile given that he would presumably have to be replaced.
