Spurs reportedly want to sign £30m speedster who Garth Crooks says is an outstanding 'bright spark'

Spurs transfer speculation is plentiful in wake of a difficult 2020-21 Premier League season.

One report claims that Tottenham are eyeing Tariq Lamptey with a view to a summer move.

Sky Sports reports that Spurs are keeping tabs on right-backs in wake of Serge Aurier’s potential departure.

And Brighton ace Lamptey, one of the most talented youngsters in the Premier League, is apparently on Tottenham’s radar.

The 20-year-old joined the Seagulls in January last year and has been sensational for Graham Potter’s side.

Sadly, injuries have impacted on Lamptey’s game time.

He suffered a season-ending hamstring injury back in March which required surgery.

Indeed, Lamptey has not played for Brighton since the goalless draw with Fulham in December.

The England Under-21 ace penned a contract extension until 2025 just a few months ago.

However, this doesn’t seem to have stopped speculation about his future, as per the recent Sky Sports report.

A February report in the Liverpool Echo claimed Brighton valued Lamptey at £30million.

Spurs transfer links with “bright spark”

Spurs icon and BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks claimed last September that Lamptey’s Brighton stint may not be a long one.

Crooks named Lamptey in his Premier League Team of the Week despite Brighton losing 3-1 to Chelsea.

“It was a comfortable win for Chelsea in the end on Monday,” he wrote on BBC Sport, via Sussex Live.

“Although there was a point when I thought they were making hard work of it at Brighton.

“I sense Brighton will have another season fighting relegation but there is a bright spark in their ranks and his name is Tariq Lamptey.

“I saw him come on as a sub for Chelsea in what was his Premier League debut against Arsenal last December and he was outstanding.

“I have no doubt he has made the right decision (to swap Chelsea for Brighton).

“If he keeps playing like he did against Chelsea, he won’t be at Brighton for very long.”
