Tottenham Hotspur academy midfielder Gabriel Han Willhoft-King has been named in The Guardian’s Next Generation 2022 list.

The newspaper has picked out the best youngsters at each Premier League club born between 1 September 2005 and 31 August 2006.

And Willhoft-King, who plays for the Tottenham Under-18s, made the cut when it came to the Spurs player selection.

The 16-year-old is one of Tottenham’s first-year scholars and has been making waves at Hotspur Way.

David Hytner of The Guardian wrote: “Tottenham always pick their strongest team in the FA Youth Cup and last season, that meant starting Willhoft-King in every tie – even though he was still a schoolboy.

“The journey lasted three games and it was an excellent experience for the standout talent of his year group at Spurs but it is where Willhoft-King intends to go next that is exciting.

“At the club since the age of six, the England Under-16 international is smooth on the ball and was pretty much a regular for the Spurs Under-18s from last October, although he would miss the end of the season because of injury.

“His range of passing is impressive.”

‘A very creative player’

As per Superhotspur, Willhoft-King made 13 competitive appearances for Tottenham’s U18s last term.

The England youth international started all three of Spurs’ FA Youth Cup games last season.

Willhoft-King also started for a Spurs Under-17 side in the 2022 Premier League Under 17 Cup final, against Manchester City.

‘Often starting matches in the defensive-midfield role, Han reminds me a bit of two Spurs Academy graduates, in Oliver Skipp and Armando Shashoua,’ wrote Superhotspur.

‘He is always looking to receive the ball, and he uses it very well, and he is so composed on the ball.

‘Willhoft-King is good defensively, but he is also a very creative player, whose passing is good, as is his skill on the ball and ability to skilfully get past players.

‘He had some really good games for the Spurs Under 18 side during 2021/22.’
