Spurs target Pickford could be tempted to leave Everton - journalist
Jordan Pickford could be tempted by the chance to leave Everton, with Tottenham Hotspur interested in the goalkeeper, journalist Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport.
Pickford has been a superb servant for the Toffees since joining from Sunderland. He has now made over 200 appearances in all competitions, keeping 57 clean sheets in that time.
He has also been the England number one for much of the last five years. His half-century of appearances was brought up at the weekend in the Three Lions’ clash with France at the World Cup.
Pickford could be tempted to leave Everton
Pickford is a divisive figure, particularly amongst rival fans. But it would seem that he is attracting attention.
90min reported earlier this year that Spurs had asked about Pickford’s availability. Antonio Conte’s men are considering potential long-term replacements for Hugo Lloris. And it seems that the 28-year-old is on their radar.
Jones has now told Give Me Sport that Tottenham remain admirers of Pickford. And the goalkeeper could be tempted to consider a move away from Goodison Park.
One thing Pickford clearly does not appear to lack is self-belief. So you can imagine that he would want to test himself at a higher level at some stage.
Everton are a work in progress right now. So he would perhaps feel that he has been given food for thought if another club came calling.
Tottenham are clearly much closer to the summit of the game. Conte’s men sit inside the top-four and have the Champions League knockout stages ahead of them.
And with Lloris reaching the twilight of his career, there is an opportunity for someone else to come in in the future and make the number one spot their own.
Pickford is a very good goalkeeper. Bukayo Saka recently labelled him ‘exceptional’. Perhaps Spurs will be keeping a very close eye on how he performs in the months ahead.
