Spurs should include Cameron Carter-Vickers in Joe Rodon bid

Monday’s deadline may have passed, but Tottenham Hotspur appear to still have work to do in the transfer market amid links with Joe Rodon.

The Daily Mail reported this week that Spurs have offered £7 million for the Swansea City centre-back. However, talks are ongoing with the Championship side valuing the 22-year-old at around £18 million.

There is still time for a deal to be done, of course. But it may alarm Spurs fans that the two clubs are so far apart in their valuations of the Wales international.

It remains to be seen if Tottenham are willing to meet Swansea’s asking price. But if they are wary of paying that much, perhaps there is a potential solution Jose Mourinho needs to consider.

According to The Mail on Sunday at the weekend (4/10; page 143), Steve Cooper’s side are one of the Championship clubs keen on signing Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Like Rodon, Carter-Vickers remains where he is following Monday’s deadline. But he could obviously still secure a move away.

It seems highly unlikely that he will feature for Mourinho’s men anytime soon. So perhaps, offering him as part of the bid for Rodon would make a lot of sense.

There are still likely to be discussions over how much Spurs would then pay if Carter-Vickers moved in the opposite direction.

Rodon is a key man for the Swans. And admittedly, it may not go down too well with the fans if he is sold with the USA international coming in as his replacement.

But if Carter-Vickers has no future in North London, using him to potentially boost Mourinho’s hopes of landing one of his targets may represent the biggest contribution he can now make to Tottenham.
