Spurs reportedly want 51-year-old who Pochettino called a 'great manager'
Tottenham Hotspur’s search for a new permanent manager continues in wake of Jose Mourinho’s sacking.
Spurs parted company with the Portuguese just over a fortnight ago in wake of a downturn in form, as well as reports that he’d lost the dressing room.
When a club of Tottenham’s stature has a managerial vacancy, it will invariably be linked with some of the top coaches in the world.
And one of the latest managers said to be on Spurs’ radar is arguably one of the best, having just led his team to title glory.
Italy’s Corriere dello Sport has reported that Tottenham has been in contact with the representatives of Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte.
The outlet claims that, while he reaffirmed his commitment to the Nerazzurri, he didn’t rule out the possibility of a move to north London.
Talks were said to have been fruitful and even reached a point where the two parties were discussing the current Tottenham squad, added the report.
Conte’s CV is impressive, featuring a Premier League triumph and an FA Cup victory with Chelsea, plus four Serie A titles, two Italian Super Cups and a Serie B title.
While at Stamford Bridge, the 51-year-old was praised by then Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino ahead of their Premier League meeting in November 2016.
“It’s a good challenge for us,” the Argentine is quoted by Football365 as saying.
“They have a great manager that I know very well. They are not only in England but in Europe one of the most in-form teams.”
Likewise, Conte spoke highly of his counterpart, saying: “I consider Mauricio one of the best managers.”
Conte is a high-calibre manager with an impressive CV who has just achieved a great feat – ending Juventus’ nine-year stranglehold on the Scudetto.
That said, prising him away from Inter won’t be easy, considering they’re now in a great position to win more silverware next season, including the Champions League.
