Spurs reportedly readying offer for £40m right wing-back likened to Trent Alexander-Arnold

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Pedro Porro in recent weeks.

In November, Jornal de Noticias claimed Spurs were one of several clubs eyeing the Sporting CP right-back.

Now, Correio da Manha – via Sport Witness – claims Tottenham are ‘preparing to formalise’ an offer for Porro.

The Spurs proposal will reportedly ‘be around’ the player’s termination clause, which stands at €45m (£40m).

It is no secret that Antonio Conte could do with bringing in reinforcements at right wing-back.

Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty haven’t exactly dazzled for Tottenham this season.

Meanwhile, Conte doesn’t seem as though he fully trusts Djed Spence with regular game time just yet.

With all that in mind, it makes sense for Spurs to be looking elsewhere.

And Porro would be a good shout for Tottenham, as he’s a very talented and proven player.

‘Tactical flexibility’

The 23-year-old joined Sporting from Manchester City this summer for around £7.3million.

The Primeira Liga side had Porro on a two-year loan, and he impressed so much they decided to sign him permanently.

City still own 30 percent on a future sale and so would take a sizeable chunk of that sum, added CDM.

Porro has weighed in with an impressive five assists from 16 matches in all competitions this term.

He also played 90 minutes in both of the games against Tottenham in the group stages of the Champions League.

In March, Total Football Analysis wrote an in-depth scouting report about Porro.

‘Porro has made a name in Portugal as a premier wing presence,’ they wrote.

‘With the ability to play either is a right midfielder, right-wingback or right-back, he offers the tactical flexibility to fit into Sporting’s 3-4-3 or into a traditional four-back system.

‘Though some improvements are needed in the defensive area of the game, Porro has justified his time in the spotlight with his attacking upside, physical qualities and defensive work rate.

‘He’s thriving in Portugal and enjoying life under Amorim.

‘Should Sporting catch Porto and seal a second consecutive Primeira Liga title, they’ll need Porro to remain healthy the remainder of the season and continue to produce both in attack and defence.’

Porro has been compared to Liverpool and England star Trent Alexander-Arnold on Twitter.
