Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Ezri Konsa has previously been described by Tim Sherwood as “brilliant” and “outstanding”.
According to The Athletic, Spurs are keeping tabs on the Aston Villa defender, alongside Liverpool.
The outlet also claims Konsa was on Tottenham’s radar when Toby Alderweireld’s £25million release clause became active in the summer of 2019, only for the latter to stay put.
Konsa joined Villa that same summer from Brentford and has made 52 competitive appearances in all competitions for Dean Smith’s side.
This season, the 23-year-old has featured 20 times in the Premier League, helping the Villans enjoy a great campaign and remaining in the top half of the table.
Former Spurs boss Sherwood has sung Konsa’s praises several times this season.
“Konsa’s been outstanding with Mings in the centre of defence,” he told talkSPORT in October (19/10, 9:12am)
Two months later, Sherwood told Sky Sports (19/12, 1:55pm): “They were missing Ezri Konsa against Burnley and I think he has been brilliant this season.”
Villa’s defensive record of 24 goals conceded is only bettered by Man City this season (14), and Konsa has been a key element of that impressive back line.
A hard-working, pacey defender boasting great ball control and who reads the game superbly, it’s little surprise to see him linked with the likes of Spurs – the club he supported as a youngster (FourFourTwo, May 2018, p.80).
