Spurs are reportedly closing in on the signing of Cristian Romero.

The Argentina defender is apparently on the radar of Tottenham director Fabio Paratici.

Football.london has reported that Spurs are in advanced negotiations for both Romero and Atalanta teammate Pierluigi Gollini.

Tottenham fans should be excited by links with the 23-year-old, because he is a top player destined for stardom.

Cristian Romero: The story so far

Romero came through the ranks at Argentine club Belgrano, but made just 18 competitive appearances before moving to Europe.

The 6ft centre-back linked up with Genoa in 2018 and made a name for himself with the Grifone.

Italian giants Juventus made their move a year later and bought him for a reported £23.4million.

Juve loaned Romero back to Genoa for the 2019-20 season, clocking up a total of 60 appearances for the club over two years.

The following summer, Romero joined Atalanta on a two-year loan with an option to buy for a reported £13.8million.

As per football.london, La Dea may look to buy the player a year early then sell him for a hefty profit.

Romero is thought to be valued at around £52million by Atalanta, for whom he has made 42 appearances so far.

The player has also won five caps for Argentina and was part of the squad that won the Copa America this summer.

Cristian Romero’s style of play

As well as reportedly being on Tottenham’s radar, Romero has also been linked with Manchester United.

In June, the Manchester Evening News provided a scouting report on the defender.

“Romero is terrific in the air, quick across the turf, a great reader of the game and strong in the tackle,” they wrote.

“An added quality he possesses is that he is also excellent at playing out from the back.”

The outlet also noted how Romero completed 86 per cent of all his passes and won 3.8 aerial duels last season.

In addition, he made the most interceptions in both the Serie A (96) and the Champions League last term.

For his efforts last season, Romero won the Serie A Defender of the Year accolade.
