Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur go into Wednesday evening’s Premier League fixture at Newcastle United buoyed by their 2-1 win in the North London derby.
While there’s still plenty of work to do in terms of their shape, rhythm and fluency, Spurs are in a great position to break into the European places, with seventh-placed Sheffield United just two points ahead.
Newcastle, meanwhile, have defied early-season expectations for the drop to secure safety and could yet finish in the top ten, but they’re a mixed bag in terms of consistency and have been left reeling by a poor defeat to Watford last time out.

Hugo Lloris has been superb in between the sticks in recent weeks so there’s no reason for him to lose his place, while Ben Davies, Davinson Sanchez, and Toby Alderweireld impressed against Arsenal and will probably keep their starting berths too.
At right-back, Serge Aurier isn’t expected to feature following the tragic news of his younger brother’s death in the early hours of Monday, with Japhet Tanganga potentially coming in for his seventh league start of the season after recovering from a stress fracture to his back.
While Tottenham went for a 4-4-2 formation of sorts against the Gunners, Mourinho could switch back to a more familiar 4-2-3-1, with Harry Winks and Giovani Lo Celso in front of the back four.
Further up, £25.8m man Erik Lamela and £27m ace Steven Bergwijn could come in to give Moussa Sissoko and Lucas Moura a rest after their strong shifts on Sunday, but no such luxuries for the crucial pair of Son Heung-min and Harry Kane.

Spurs predicted XI: Lloris; Tanganga, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Davies; Winks, Lo Celso; Bergwijn, Lamela, Son; Kane
