17 – Spurs on the brink of White Hart Lane history
Victory over Arsenal on Sunday not only signalled a ninth successive league victory for Tottenham but it also means that they are on the brink of going a whole season unbeaten at White Hart Lane.
Only Liverpool and Leicester City have visited North London and left with a point, with Spurs now on a 13-match winning streak at home, and now only Manchester United can stop Mauricio Pochettino’s side from giving White Hart Lane the perfect send-off ahead of their switch to Wembley for next season.
It took a while to get going but the second-half was a vintage Spurs display; explosive and innovative in attack, the score-line could have looked a lot worse for Arsenal had it not been for Petr Cech’s heroics.
Alli and Kane will grab the headlines again for their goal-scoring exploits but Pochettino has built a solid team at Tottenham and a team where there are no clear weaknesses from top to bottom.
After one London side all-but ended their Premier League title hopes last season, Spurs did well to make sure that lightning didn’t strike twice in a professional dismantling of a struggling Arsenal outfit.
It seems hard to believe that a team could go unbeaten at home all season, finishing with a potential point tally of 89 points, and not win the title – but Tottenham won’t stop fighting until the end.
