Tottenham responded to Chelsea’s victory over Everton earlier in the day as goals from Dele Alli and Harry Kane helped see off North London rivals Arsenal in a convincing win at White Hart Lane.

Going in to the match seven points adrift of the leaders after their victory, Alli and Christian Eriksen both missed clear-cut opportunities to put Spurs ahead in a cagey opening half.

The hosts came out fast after the break, and Alli capitalised on Eriksen’s saved effort to stab home before Kane picked himself up less than three minutes later to fire home from the spot.

Petr Cech then made a string of stunning saves to ensure that the afternoon didn’t become an embarrassment for the Gunners, but the result sees Arsenal remain five points adrift of the top four.
