Spurs now reportedly want to sign 'electric' 23-year-old whose manager says is just like Thierry Henry
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Rafael Leao in recent days.
According to a report from Calciomercato.it, Spurs are one of several clubs eyeing the AC Milan winger.
Tottenham are apparently in the race for Leao amid uncertainty over his future at the San Siro.
Calciomercato.it reports that the Portugal international has an offer on the table worth £167,500-a-week.
Milan, meanwhile, are apparently not prepared to meet his demands.
The Athletic reports that Leao’s contract runs until 2024.
This suggests the 23-year-old could become available at an affordable price next year.
Admittedly, Spurs will probably face stiff competition for his signature, especially after his brilliant start to the current season.
But if Tottenham were to land Leao, they’d be getting their hands on one of the most exciting players in Europe right now.
Spurs eyeing player who “has everything”
Leao has taken his game to another level over the last couple of years.
He contributed to 21 goals in Serie A last year as the Rossoneri won the Scudetto.
And this season, Leao has four goals and seven assists from 10 Milan outings in all competitions.
In January, Stefano Pioli was asked if Leao can reach the heights of Kylian Mbappe, as per SempreMilan.
The Milan manager responded with another comparison, stating that the winger remains him of Thierry Henry.
“He reminds me so much of Henry,” said Pioli.
“I think he has to convince himself and work hard on his head to try to be ambitious.
“One with his means must think of reaching the top of the world, but talent isn’t enough.
“He has understood that he has to work in a certain way.”
Meanwhile, teammate Fikayo Tomori told The Athletic that Leao is ‘electric’ and ‘has everything’.
