Spurs now reportedly want to sign £48k-a-week World Cup playmaker likened to Jude Bellingham

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Argentina international Alexis Mac Allister in recent days.

According to L’Interista, Spurs are one of several top clubs eyeing the Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder.

As well as Tottenham, the likes of Inter Milan, Juventus and Atletico Madrid are apparently in pursuit.

Over the past few weeks, Spurs have been able to take stock and plan for the rest of the season.

Meanwhile, the World Cup has delivered plenty of great moments and put many talents in the shop window.

Mac Allister is one of those, the 23-year-old helping Argentina reach the World Cup final.

The reported Tottenham target has played in all but one of the Albiceleste’s games in Qatar.

And the only one he missed was the defeat to Saudi Arabia, after which Argentina bounced back in style.

‘Getting better and better’

Ahead of the win over Croatia, Roy Keane compared Mac Allister’s style of play to that of Jude Bellingham.

“What I like about him is the timing, drifting in there, we see him do this week in week out,” he said on ITV (13/12/22, 18:20).

“Getting himself in the right positions, reading the game, football intelligence, knowing where the ball is going to go.

“He’s definitely growing. He’s new to international football. We love to see this, we were praising Bellingham for it earlier in the tournament for this type of play.

“We don’t often see this from the modern midfielder. Showing his quality and getting better and better as the tournament goes on. Consider he didn’t start the tournament.”

It’s not surprising to see Tottenham linked with Mac Allister. He’s been showcasing his talent at the highest level and, at just 23, has plenty more time to develop.

However, Spurs – and any other suitors – won’t find it easy to land the £48,000-a-week playmaker any time soon.

Mac Allister only penned an extension in October, taking his contract to 2025. This means the Seagulls hold all the cards in negotiations.
