Spurs-linked Marcel Sabitzer issues intriguing reply on his future
Tottenham Hotspur supporters will certainly be intrigued by comments Marcel Sabitzer has made to Sky concerning his future with RB Leipzig.
Sabitzer looks set to be linked with a host of clubs over the coming months. As reported by Football London last week, the 27-year-old is a player Tottenham like a lot.
And they may have now received some encouragement. He is out of contract with the Bundesliga side next summer, and he has avoided committing his future to the club.
“So much is said in football. What I say today will no longer count tomorrow. I am sticking to the fact that I have a contract until 2022,” he told Sky.
Interestingly, German outlet Kicker adds that he was then asked by Sky whether he expects to still be with Leipzig next season.
“I’ll leave it as I said,” he said, when asked about whether he will be playing for Leipzig next year.
Leipzig will surely have to think about selling Sabitzer this summer. If he is not planning to extend his contract, then they may have little choice.
Of course, the onus is then on Tottenham to make sure they secure his signature. Sky notes that Jose Mourinho could look to sign him for Roma having wanted him in North London.
And Spurs fans would be forgiven for not expecting Daniel Levy to splash the cash in the coming months. It has obviously been an incredibly difficult time for clubs financially.
Sabitzer however, is the kind of marquee signing that would really send out a statement after a difficult campaign.
And perhaps, he may now have put his admirers on notice.
