As Spurs continue to struggle under Jose Mourinho, attention may well begin to turn to the summer and Dwight McNeil is a player who should be top of their shopping list.
The Londoners were apparently interested in signing the Burnley man in January. McNeil burst onto the scene with the Clarets last season and has been an ever-present this term.
The 20-year-old has bagged himself three goals and five assists this term in the Premier League. Indeed, McNeil has been integral as Burnley have pulled themselves clear of any relegation trouble.
However, such talent is never going to be at Turf Moor forever. That is, of course, no disrespect to the Clarets but simply hanging on the words of their manager, Sean Dyche.
Dyche has conceded this weekend (The Mirror) that McNeil will eventually leave the club. He did, however, stop short of insisting the club is in a rush to get rid of their star youngster.
It makes perfect sense, then, for Spurs to be eyeing up McNeil again.
A summer overhaul needed
Ever since talks of Christian Eriksen moving away from the club, there’s been a sense that this Spurs squad could be breaking apart.
The likes of Dele Alli have been woefully out of form. Jan Verthongen looks to be on his way out of the club while Tob Alderweireld only signed a new deal once Jose Mourinho took over.
Spurs, then, look a far cry from the team Mauricio Pochettino had done so well. Indeed, it’s hard to remember that they were actually Champions League finalists last season.
It seems very much that an overhaul of the current squad is needed. And the addition of young, prestigious talents like McNeil might well be a key starting block.
Burnley haven’t exactly been a hotbed for talent in the last few years. But they appear to have really hit the jackpot with Dwight McNeil.

His influence is there for all to see. If Spurs are really wanting to improve things for now and the future, then signing McNeil this summer is simply a must.
