'Spurs fans will remember this': Jamie O'Hara shares what happened when Chelsea target Marc Cucurella last faced Tottenham Hotspur
The Athletic reports that Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Cucurella this summer for a fee worth up to £63 million.
And while that is a sizeable fee for the 24-year-old, O’Hara told TalkSPORT that he was seriously impressed with the player when he last played at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
Graham Potter’s men ran out 1-0 winners back in April after a late Leandro Trossard goal and O’Hara says Cucurella kept Dejan Kulusevski quiet on the day.
When Cucurella faced Tottenham
“Cucurella for me though, I watched him, and Spurs fans will remember this,” he said.
“When Brighton beat us at the Spurs stadium and Kulsevski was in great form, playing really well. Cucurella had him in his pocket.”
The former Spurs midfielder was clearly impressed by the Frenchman’s performance last season and thinks he will be a great signing for Chelsea.
Brighton were excellent on the day when they beat Spurs last season and Kulusevski was a man in form going into the game.
But Tottenham’s star-studded attack of Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and the Swedish international were largely kept quiet.
Reports suggested that Tottenham and Manchester City were interested in Cucurella this summer but the Spaniard looks set to seal a move to Stamford Bridge.
The Brighton man was a standout performer for Potter’s side last campaign and picked up two player of the season awards for the club in his debut year.
Cucurella will undoubtedly be a great signing for Thomas Tuchel if the move goes through as expected. The Spanish international can play as a left wing-back and on the left side of a back-three, which makes him an ideal fit for the German boss’ side.
