Spurs fans want Fernando Llorente re-signed

A number of Spurs fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Fernando Llorente with some suggesting that they should look at a short-term deal for the striker.

The transfer window is now shut. And on the whole, it was an incredibly positive window for Tottenham.

Obviously, the most important piece of business was keeping their talisman. Harry Kane remains in North London after months of speculation.

But they also made a number of inspired buys. Cristian Romero was Serie A’s best defender last season and won the Copa America with Argentina.

Bryan Gil and Emerson Royal were two extremely exciting young talents who have arrived from La Liga.

And the early signs suggest that Pierluigi Gollini could have the potential to succeed Hugo Lloris if he continues to impress when he gets chances.

But it was not a perfect window for Fabio Paratici and Nuno Espirito Santo.

They have arguably left themselves a little light up front. Kane is obviously sticking around. And Son Heung-min can lead the line if needed.

But beyond the pair, 17-year-old Dane Scarlett looks to be the next name in the pecking order.

Scarlett looks to have an incredible career ahead. But with Spurs battling on four fronts, Nuno will be wary of overexposing the youngster.

So it looks to be a blow for Tottenham to let the window close without bringing in a new striker.

But some fans clearly believe that they still have an opportunity to rectify that situation and make a further signing.

Spurs fans suggest Llorente move after not signing striker

According to AS in Spain, Fernando Llorente is now a free agent after leaving Udinese. The 36-year-old joined the Serie A side back in January.

Unfortunately, his time in Italy had not proved to be successful. He scored once in 14 appearances.

But for some Tottenham supporters, bringing him back to North London on a short-term deal would make a lot of sense.

Llorente has something of a cult-hero status at Spurs. Of course, he played a pivotal role in their run to the 2019 Champions League final.

He was never prolific. He scored 13 goals in 66 appearances in all competitions. But he would not be the only striker to struggle in the role as Kane’s understudy.

He has been playing top-flight football in Spain, Italy and England continuously since 2004.

Interestingly, he is a player Fabio Paratici would have dealt with. He spent more than two years at Juventus earlier in his career.

And it is hard to imagine Llorente hesitating for a second if Spurs come calling.

Admittedly, many are unlikely to want such a deal. But he is a player who could be on the bench most of the season with occasional appearances in the Europa Conference League.

Scarlett should still be ahead of him in the pecking order. But his arrival would also take some pressure off of the teenager.

And it is interesting that plenty of Spurs fans have seemingly suggested that they would welcome seeing Llorente return.

‘Would warm my heart’

With that in mind, here is what some of the supporters were saying about Llorente following the closure of the transfer window…
