Spurs fans react to Pau Torres comments after snub
A number of Spurs fans have taken to Twitter to react to comments from Pau Torres – reported by the Sunday Mirror (5/9; page 76) – in which he claimed he rejected Tottenham on deadline day.
Tottenham were one of the sides that were able to announce a deadline day signing. Emerson Royal has joined the club from Barcelona.
But it appears that Royal was not the only player offered the chance to move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the final hours of the window.
According to the Sunday Mirror (5/9; page 76), Spurs made a £43 million bid for Torres as the deadline loomed. However, the 24-year-old rejected the move.
And the Villarreal man has now shared the reason behind his decision to reject the switch.
“I was clear from the first moment what I wanted and so I decided, calmly, the best thing for me was to continue at Villarreal,” he said, as reported by the Sunday Mirror.
“We have many challenges this season, that I am passionate about, and very important goals.”
It did appear that Spurs could have done with one more central defensive option in their ranks.
Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier have been excellent so far under Nuno Espirito Santo. But both have come in for a lot of criticism in the past.
Meanwhile, Cristian Romero has come in with Toby Alderweireld leaving.
So signing Torres would have arguably been an incredibly impressive piece of business.
‘Have to respect the loyalty’: Spurs fans react to Pau Torres comments
A lot of Spurs fans have actually praised Torres following his comments. They admire his loyalty to the Yellow Submarine and have wished him well.
Some hope a fresh move is launched next summer, while others believe that Tottenham may be better off not getting a deal done.
With that in mind, here is how some of the fans have reacted to Torres’s comments…
