Spurs fans react to Fernando Llorente's goal against Liverpool

A number of Tottenham Hotspur supporters have taken to Twitter to laud Fernando Llorente after the Spaniard got some revenge for last season’s Champions League final with his first goal for Napoli.

Llorente was one of the Spurs players who endured an agonising end to last season as Mauricio Pochettino’s men were beaten in Madrid by Liverpool. The striker came off the bench when the score was 1-0, but was unable to make an impact as the Reds went on to double their lead and picked up the trophy.

That would prove to be Llorente’s final appearance for Spurs. But his summer move to Napoli presented the forward with an opportunity to get some revenge as the Serie A side were drawn with Jurgen Klopp’s men in the Champions League group-stages, with the pair playing their opening game against each other on Tuesday.

Llorente started the game at Stadio San Paolo on the bench. But he was brought on with just over 20 minutes remaining as the clash remained goalless.

Dries Mertens would break the deadlock from the penalty spot with eight minutes remaining. And then came Llorente’s moment to further cement himself in Spurs folklore.

The Spaniard latched onto a poor defensive pass into Liverpool’s penalty area and lifted the ball over Adrian to double Napoli’s lead in stoppage-time.

Despite a poor first season with the club, Llorente left Tottenham with cult-hero status. He played a key role as Spurs navigated their way through last season’s knockout stages.

And it appears that his cult-hero status has only grown following his departure. Plenty of Spurs fans were delighted to see the striker put one past Liverpool on Tuesday.

Here is how some of the Tottenham supporters reacted to his first Napoli goal…
