A number of Spurs fans have taken to social media to hit out at the club after their tweet to mark the debut of Emerson Royal on Saturday.

The optimism surrounding Nuno Espirito Santo’s side in the opening weeks of the campaign has somewhat evaporated in their first game back following the international break.

Tottenham were thrashed 3-0 at Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. It proved to be a particularly miserable second-half for the visitors.

Japhet Tanganga picked up two yellow cards in the space of five minutes. And the Eagles went on to score three times to win in emphatic fashion.

It was certainly a baptism of fire for debutant Royal. The 22-year-old came in at right-back as Tanganga moved into the middle.

It could be argued that the youngster was not one of their worst performers. Wilfried Zaha got the better of him on occasions, but Royal also had his fair share of victories.

There were some promising signs from Royal. However, what the fans did not expect to see was a tweet from Spurs paying a small tribute to their summer signing.

Many have made it clear that their frustration is not aimed at Royal. Instead, they cannot understand why the club felt it had any reason to post anything positive from yesterday’s game.
