A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to laud Tanguy Ndombele’s performance after Spurs beat Chelsea on penalties to secure their spot in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.

Jose Mourinho’s men continued their gruelling schedule on Tuesday. It looked set however, like the tie was going to end in defeat as Timo Werner’s first-half strike was all that separated the two sides heading into the final stages.

But Erik Lamela struck late on to equalise and send the game to penalties. Mason Mount was the only player to miss to send Spurs through.

There were a number of impressive performances from Tottenham’s players. But one that the fans felt compelled to rave about was the one that came from Ndombele.

The Frenchman really has gone some way to silence his doubters in the early stages of this season. It seemed entirely possible, during the summer, that he may secure a move away after struggling to impress Mourinho in his first few months in North London.

But Ndombele has been outstanding when he has been given an opportunity. And he took another step forward by getting a further 90 minutes under his belt against the Blues.

As shown by Whoscored.com, only one Tottenham player managed more accurate passes and more key passes than Ndombele.

Meanwhile, no player completed more dribbles than the 23-year-old. And he was generally excellent at retaining possession, even though he was often surrounded by a number of Chelsea players whenever he got the ball.

It was a superb showing from Ndombele. And plenty of Tottenham fans are, understandably, excited about the prospect of the midfielder realising his full potential in the coming months after another sign of progress.
