A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from the Sunday Mirror (2/5; page 69) claiming that Ryan Mason is emerging as a genuine contender for the permanent manager’s job at Spurs.
Mason has now taken charge of three games since Jose Mourinho’s sacking. He has overseen two victories in the Premier League, with both Southampton and Sheffield United beaten.
And his stock suffered no fall following the Carabao Cup final. Spurs were beaten 1-0 by Manchester City thanks a late goal for the Premier League leaders.
It appears that Mason’s performance is impressing those working behind the scenes at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
According to the Sunday Mirror (2/5; page 69), Mason is emerging as a genuine option for the permanent gig in North London. It is claimed that there is a growing feeling amongst the decision-makers that appointing Mason permanently would appeal to the supporters.
Probably unsurprisingly, the reaction to the reports has been mixed. There are plenty who feel that it is too soon for Mason.
They have also questioned what he has shown so far given the standard of the opposition they have faced in the league.
But there are several who are much more in favour of the idea. From the outside, it does not appear to have been the most encouraging search for a new manager so far.
Mason has had a positive impact across the games he has overseen. And some think that he deserves the chance to show what he can do over a much longer period.
With that in mind, here is how some of the fans have reacted to the reports…
We’ve won 2 prem games lads let’s not get too carried away now

If its new expensive manager and no signings or Mason and couple of good new signings…I’d give Ryan a crack every day of the week

Would rather get Rangnick with Mason as assistant…with a view to Mason being our next manager

With all due respect to Mason please no

Just give him it. Let him settle in ready for next season. We’ll all know where we are then.

Let’s see at the end of the season! I really like Ryan Mason.

I don’t mind if he gets a chance. So far I like the attacking footy I saw against Southampton (2nd half) and against Sheffield United. Not the best teams I know but they have looked different under Mason. Ten Hag I wanted bit with him off the board I’m fine with Mason.

Mason as head coach, with Rangnick as Director of Football would be an exciting prospect.

Yes! Fully behind this. One of our own and deserves the chance more than anyone else #coachmason

I like him, but it’s huge risk considering his inexperience.
