Spurs fans react on Twitter to Matt Doherty reports

A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from ESPN this week concerning the future of Matt Doherty.

Doherty has really struggled since arriving in North London in the summer. He has made just nine starts in the Premier League, with Serge Aurier proving to be first-choice for much of the campaign.

And it now appears that his stay with Spurs could be quite brief. According to ESPN, Jose Mourinho has doubts about the Republic of Ireland international and could consider selling him in the summer.

It is noted that the door is not completely shut on Doherty turning his fortunes around. And it is interesting that he was brought on at half-time at West Ham on Sunday as Spurs looked to get themselves back in the game.

It does appear that the reports have divided some fans on social media. There is little question that Doherty – who earns around £65,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – has been an underwhelming signing so far.

However, some have suggested that he needs more time. They do not believe that Mourinho has used him in his best role of a more attacking wing-back. And it is clear that some believe that Mourinho is a bigger problem than any one player.

But several others believe that it would be a good move to cut their losses in the summer. Some seemingly cannot see the 29-year-old improving at this stage of his career.
