A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to react to comments Jose Mourinho made on Wednesday – and reported by Football London – concerning Japhet Tanganga’s best position.
Tanganga has been considered by many to be one of Spurs’ brightest prospects for some time. And he seems to have taken to life in the first-team extremely well.

What has been particularly impressive about the 21-year-old is the versatility he has shown. He has done well at both centre-back and at full-back for the senior squad since his debut.
The youngster has not made a Premier League appearance this term due to injury. However, Mourinho was asked about him in his latest press conference after not listing Tanganga amongst his centre-back options while Toby Alderweireld is out injured.

The Spurs boss was asked whether that was down to Tanganga’s fitness or because the Portuguese sees the prospect primarily as a full-back option.
“For me he’s a full-back,” he said, as reported by Football London. “Can he play centre-back? Yes he can, of course he can, and he will if we need and we will need. He can play centre-back, but for me in the context of what high level football is and especially Premier League is, I see him more as a multi-functional defensive player but I see him more as a full-back.”
‘Terrible news for Japhet’
The comments appear to have attracted a mixed reaction on social media. Admittedly, there are a couple of fans who agree with Mourinho and think Tanganga’s future is out wide.
However, it appears that plenty of supporters were disappointed by what Mourinho said. They feel that Tanganga has shown a lot of promise at centre-back and should be considered an option there.
Tottenham boast two superb options in both full-back positions before you add Tanganga to the mix. So perhaps some are fearful that he could struggle for game-time if he is unlikely to feature in the middle.
