Spurs fans react on Twitter to Jan Vertonghen reports

A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from Sky Sports suggesting that Jan Vertonghen is keen to discuss a new contract with Spurs.

Vertonghen’s future has looked unclear for some time. Sky Sports reports that the Belgian is out of contract in the summer and talks are yet to begin over fresh terms.

But it appears that Vertonghen wants to get round the table. Sky Sports reports that he is keen to discuss a contract extension following the arrival of Jose Mourinho as Mauricio Pochettino’s successor.

Interestingly however, the reports have divided some of the Tottenham fans on social media. The 32-year-old has not been at his best this season. And some are not convinced that offering him a fresh contract would be a step in the right direction.

He has been an outstanding servant for the club. And there is no question that he has been one of the Premier League’s best defenders over the last decade. Nevertheless, some clearly cannot see Vertonghen rediscovering his old form.

However, there a number of fans who are delighted about the prospect of Vertonghen signing a new deal. They are backing him to get back to his best under Mourinho.

And keeping him at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium may be helpful as Mourinho gears up to perhaps make changes to his squad over the coming months.
