A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to discuss James Tavernier after the Daily Mail reported that Spurs are one of the sides to have considered a move for the Rangers full-back.

Tavernier is enjoying an incredible season at Ibrox. Steven Gerrard’s side top the Scottish Premiership table. And they are through to the knockout stages of the Europa League.

Remarkably, the right-back tops the goalscoring charts in the top flight. He has scored 10 in the league, and 16 in all competitions.

A number of his goals have come from the penalty spot. But he is also the leading assist-provider in the Premiership, having set up seven.

The Daily Mail notes that a number of Premier League sides have considered Tavernier during his time with the Gers. And Spurs are one of the teams to have been named.

It is important to note that it is not clear whether any of the clubs mentioned are currently interested in Tavernier. And given Rangers’s current position in the league, it is difficult to see any key players leaving in January.

Nevertheless, the links with Tavernier has sparked plenty of debate amongst Spurs fans on social media.

Some clearly feel that there is little point signing a right-back. Jose Mourinho has Serge Aurier, Matt Doherty and Japhet Tanganga already available to him. And the 29-year-old’s age is also putting some off.

However, there are others who would back a move if Tottenham were still interested. January is going to be a crucial month for Spurs if they remain top of the Premier League.

And some fans would clearly love to see players at the top of their game added to the ranks next month. Tavernier is unproven in the Premier League. But he is certainly playing the best football of his career right now.

Here is how some of the fans have reacted to the links with Tavernier…
