Tottenham Hotspur have had their fair share of defensive problems over the past few years.

Not that long ago, prime Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen made Spurs hard to break at the back.

But now, the Tottenham defence often flatters to deceive.

Cristian Romero was certainly a step up, but sadly he’s set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Plenty to think about for Antonio Conte with the January transfer window on the horizon.

But one player who Spurs have been linked with in recent weeks would certainly bolster their defence.

That player is Gleison Bremer, a 24-year-old defender who plies his trade for Torino in Serie A.

The Brazilian is one of the top defenders in the Italian top flight.

Indeed, the likes of Liverpool and AC Milan have also been linked with Bremer.

According to Torino Granata, Spurs are leading the race for him.

The Italian outfit’s board is reportedly listening to offers for Bremer, whose contract runs out in 2023.

They want to avoid what happened with Andrea Belotti, whose deal expires in the summer.

And Tottenham are reportedly “above all” other clubs in terms of the most concrete interest in Bremer.

Indeed, the outlet claims that Spurs are “becoming insistent” over trying to land the defender.

They also claim Tottenham are willing to pay more than 20m euros (£17m) – Torino’s price tag – for Bremer.

If Spurs manage to land him, fans should be buzzing, as he’s such a good player.

Spurs target is ‘goal-obsessed’

Bremer has impressed for his club since arriving in 2018, making 92 appearances.

The 6ft 2in ace also has a superb goal contribution tally for a centre-back – 12 goals and five assists.

Indeed, Torino boss Ivan Juric recently paid tribute to Bremer’s love of scoring.

“He always wants to score, he’s goal-obsessed,” DAZN – via Calciomercato – quotes Juric as saying.

“Indeed, he was angry for having missed shots (against Udinese in November).

Bremer is a tactically flexible, front-foot defender (90Min) who’s got plenty of years ahead of him.

Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte have extensive knowledge of Serie A, and Bremer – like Romero – would be a superb acquisition.
