Report: Tottenham now want to sign another Arsenal target, despite Edu making a bid already
Arsenal face competition from nearest rivals Tottenham, Chelsea and Newcastle if they want to land the impressive Ajax defender, Lisandro Martinez.
Reports yesterday emerged claiming that Martinez was now one of the top defensive targets for Arsenal this summer and that a bid had indeed been made. The Dutch side are thought to want to keep Martinez if they can, although they accept that the player will have a price-point they can’t turn down.
Arsenal are believed to be edging nearer meeting Ajax’s demands. However, 90Min has claimed that the Gunners won’t be having an easy run at the Argentinian defender. 90Min reports how a host of Premier League teams, including Spurs and Chelsea, wouldn’t mind signing Martinez themselves.
Ajax are thought to be seeking around the £30m mark if they are to sell Martinez this summer. And in today’s market, that sort of fee won’t be an issue for any of the English clubs mentioned here.
For Arsenal, it is yet another negotiation that isn’t looking straight forward. Tottenham have been linked with a number of players the Gunners like, including Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison.
TBR’s View: Arsenal Face Familiar Battle For Lisandro Martinez
The problem for Arsenal is that they can’t offer Champions League football. With that, if another club gets wind that a top player is available, then they’re likely to contend with the Gunners and make a bid.
With Lisandro, it seems very much that Tottenham are keen and will be able to usurp the Gunners in terms of what they can offer. Of course, Arsenal shouldn’t be counted out, and they did pull a rabbit out of the hat by signing Fabio Vieira this week.
Martinez looks like he’s a ready-made Premier League player, in fairness to him. So whoever gets him, Arsenal, Spurs, or Chelsea, will be getting a top talent.
