Spurs can solve Hugo Lloris replacement issue by signing Jan Oblak, he’s open to PL move

Spurs have a bit of a problem on their hands in the next 12 months as they seek to replace outstanding and long-standing goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris.

The Frenchman has been an excellent servant for Spurs but now 34 and probably just past his very best, the club will need to ensure forward planning when it comes to the goalkeeping department.

Joe Hart is the current understudy and is unlikely to take the number one spot any time soon. Indeed, he’s another who is arguably past his very best, so Spurs will need another name in the building.

One name who could interest them is Atletico Madrid superstar, Jan Oblak. Speaking to the Guillem Balague Podcast, via Goal today, Oblak has admitted he could be tempted by a move to England or elsewhere, despite being happy in Madrid.

“The Premier League has strong teams. Maybe the strongest. But I think in the end it is what the coach is asking of you. You listen to his instructions,” Oblak commented.

“I don’t know what the future will bring, but I am sure that in any league I would play I could play well. You never know what will happen in the future. Now I have been in Spain for seven years. Let’s see. I’m still young. Not so young anymore, but I still have some years in front of me.”

And despite having a huge £102m release clause in his contract, Spurs may look to try and capitalise on Oblak’s intrigue and drive that price down with Atletico.

Oblak one of the best and perfect for Spurs

When it comes to world-class goalkeepers, they don’t come much better than Oblak. During his time with Atletico, he has gained a reputation for being one of the outstanding stoppers in world football.

His performances have been the base behind runs at league titles, Spanish cup wins, and agonising losses in the latter stages of the Champions League. Oblak, arguably, deserves to have a CL winners medal around his neck.

But his openness to leaving might interest a number of clubs. Of course, that massive release clause is a stumbling block. However, if Oblak did want to go, then that price would come down.

Spurs will need someone brilliant to replace Lloris when he does decide to go. Oblak, then, is one of few who can do such a thing.
