Spurs boss Conte issues positive update on Ryan Sessegnon
Antonio Conte has told Spurs Play that Ryan Sessegnon is ready to return for Tottenham Hotspur – though the 22-year-old is still not quite back to full fitness ahead of the resumption of the Premier League season.
Sessegnon missed the final game before the World Cup break – the dramatic 4-3 win over Leeds – due to a hamstring injury. And actually, it appeared that the tournament came at a good time for the youngster as it gave him time to recover.
And it seems that he was sidelined for some time. Journalist Alasdair Gold told his YouTube channel two weeks ago that Sessegnon was still not back training with the full squad.
Conte provides update on Ryan Sessegnon
With Ivan Perisic making it to last four of the World Cup, it seems imperative that Sessegnon is back ready for later this month. And Conte has now provided a positive update on his fitness.
The Spurs boss has suggested that Sessegnon is available again.
“It was good to have time to recover Sessegnon. He’s not still 100% but now he’s ready,” he told Spurs Play.
Sessegnon’s availability is crucial for Tottenham for the time-being. It is going to be some time before Perisic is back in the fold after he helped Croatia finish third at the World Cup.
This season has been the youngster’s best yet for Spurs. So it is good news that he has barely missed a game for Conte’s side. And he is going to have an opportunity to stamp his authority on a position over the turn of the year.
Tottenham will be wary of rushing Sessegnon back too soon. He has had various injuries since making the switch from Fulham. And coming back too soon from a hamstring problem could cause issues further down the line.
But Conte demands more from his players than most managers. So Sessegnon will not be back in the fold unless the Tottenham boss is confident that he can handle his demands.
