Tottenham Hotspur have seemingly received a significant boost in their bid to sign Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer, with the Guardian reporting that Southampton’s asking price for the midfielder has dropped by £10 million.

Hojbjerg’s future has been up in the air for some time. Sky Sports reported in the final hours of the January transfer window that Spurs were monitoring the Dane ahead of the summer.

And it appears that Jose Mourinho may not be too far from getting his man.

The Guardian reports that all sides are growing increasingly confident that a swap deal will be agreed, with Kyle Walker-Peters moving in the opposite direction.

The Guardian notes that agreeing the valuations of the two players will provide the biggest stumbling block at this stage.

However, it is suggested that Southampton now want £25 million for Hojbjerg having previously demanded £35 million before the lockdown.

TBR View: Onus on Spurs to make sure deal gets done

Southampton’s decision to drop Hojbjerg’s asking price surely puts the onus on Spurs to make sure a move gets across the line.

The two clubs still need to agree a price for Walker-Peters. But Tottenham can make sure that happens if landing Hojbjerg is a priority for Mourinho.

Daniel Levy may be prepared to drive a hard bargain. The Sun reported this week that Spurs want £10 million for Walker-Peters.

But if Mourinho feels that Hojbjerg is a key target, and has no place in his plans for Walker-Peters, then perhaps reaching an agreement will ultimately prove to be a formality.
