Tottenham Hotspur have potentially received a boost if they are indeed interested in Lucas Vazquez, with Spanish outlet Defensa Central reporting that he has spoken to Luka Modric about playing in the Premier League.

Vazquez’s future is up in the air heading into the summer. As noted by Defensa Central, he is out of contract at the end of the season.

The report claims that Zinedine Zidane wants the 29-year-old to stay. However, Los Blancos are currently unwilling to meet his demands. And it now appears that he is considering his other options.

According to Defensa Central, he has spoken to a number of teammates who have come from other leagues. And one of those he has apparently held a conversation with about his situation is Modric.

That is arguably significant because one of the teams reportedly interested is Spurs. The Daily Star (28/2; page 45) reported last month that Tottenham had joined the race to sign Vazquez.

Modric, of course, spent four years in North London. And he left in 2012 having made over 150 appearances for Spurs in all competitions.

He also has experience of working under Jose Mourinho. It was the Portuguese who was in charge during his first year in the Spanish capital.

It is difficult therefore, to imagine Vazquez not getting a positive impression of Tottenham from any discussions with Modric.

Obviously, there are many more factors that will determine what the future holds for the wide-man. But if Spurs are keen, it appears that they have received a boost.
