'He's on the radar': Journalist claims Spurs are long-time admirers of 'incredible' Arsenal target
Tottenham Hotspur are long-time admirers of reported Arsenal target Djed Spence, according to Michael Bridge.
Sky Sports reported last week that both Spurs and the Gunners were eyeing the Middlesbrough full-back.
As well as Spurs and Arsenal, Leeds are apparently eyeing Spence too.
The Evening Standard has claimed that Boro could demand £12million for Spence.
However, the 21-year-old has already played for two clubs this season.
This means Spurs and Arsenal wouldn’t be able to play him if they signed him this term.
Nonetheless, he’s a top talent and it’s not surprising that the likes of Tottenham and the Gunners are eyeing him.
At present, Spence is on loan at Nottingham Forest, where he’s lighting up the City Ground.
He announced himself to a nationwide audience earlier this month when he helped knock Arsenal out of the FA Cup.
And on Tuesday, he further underlined his status as a star in the making in Tuesday’s 3-0 Championship win over Barnsley.
Spence played a key role in the third goal in a victory which helped Forest edge to within a point of the top six.
He picked up the ball in his own half, surged up the pitch and into the opposition box – beating three defenders along the way – before squaring for Brennan Johnson to sweep home.
“He’s on the radar”
Bridge spoke to Last Word On Spurs on Thursday and admitted that Tottenham are monitoring the right-back.
“Spence is one of a number of players Spurs are looking at,” he said.
“And I’m really glad to say Spurs are looking in the Championship. It’s been long overdue!
“I’ve been a big critic of Spurs, who have been too obsessed with looking in Holland and France all the time.
“Spence was incredible against Arsenal in the FA Cup, but Spurs have been looking at Spence for a lot longer than that.
“He’s on the radar, but Spurs have a number of scouts at many Championship matches at the moment.”
