Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld played the full 90 minutes in Belgium’s World Cup qualifying victory last night.

The Red Devils hosted Wales in their Group E opener in Leuven.

Although the visitors opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Harry Wilson, Kevin De Bruyne got his nation back into the game with a superb goal from distance.

Following the City ace’s 22nd-minute rocket, Thorgan Hazard then struck six minutes later to take a 2-1 lead into the break.

Belgium then struck again in the second half as Romelu Lukaku netted a penalty after Chris Mepham brought down Dries Mertens.

Victory saw Belgium record a 13th straight competitive win at home and go second in Group E behind Czech Republic, who won 6-2 in Estonia.

As per Whoscored, Alderweireld took 154 touches of the ball, made 148 passes at 92.6 percent accuracy.

He also had one shot, delivered an accurate long ball, won one aerial challenge, and made one clearance, though he was penalised for two fouls.

Sportskeeda rated him 7 out of 10 and wrote: “Toby Alderweireld was tidy in possession, ending the game with the most touches and passes for Belgium.”

Belgian outlet RTBF gave him the same score and wrote: “Several long balls as usual. Rarely caught failing, except in the 56th” (minute, when Daniel James was able to get a shot away).

Up next for Belgium is Saturday’s qualifier against the Czech Republic, before they wrap up their programme against Belarus.
