Last year, Tottenham Hotspur sold Kyle Walker-Peters to Southampton for a reported £12million fee.

Now, the Spurs academy graduate is absolutely shining at his new club.

So much so, in fact, that he’s been deemed a “real contender” for their Player of the Season award.

The 24-year-old burst onto the scene for Tottenham with an impressive debut against Newcastle in August 2017.

Despite Walker-Peters’ superb start to life at Spurs, he managed just 24 appearances for the Tottenham senior team.

In 2019-20, Walker-Peters made five appearances for Spurs and just one after Jose Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino.

This was despite the club’s lack of options at right-back at the time.

Eventually, he swapped London for Southampton on loan in January last year and was sold in August.

Walker-Peters has made 57 appearances to date and, on Wednesday, helped Saints to a 2-2 draw with Leicester.

Hampshire Live gave him 7.5 out of 10 and wrote: “Walker-Peters is a real contender for Southampton player of the season for 2021 and you could see why tonight.

“Leicester had no joy down his side and he was strong going forward.”

It’s great to see Walker-Peters flourishing at Southampton after struggling at Spurs.

That said, you can’t help but wonder whether Tottenham should’ve given him more of a chance instead of offloading him.
