Micky Gray has suggested that he has been so surprised by one ‘special’ Chelsea player this season, insisting that he did not see him making such an impact for the Blues.
It is definitely been a turbulent campaign for Mauricio Pochettino’s side. The Argentinian continues to face a fight to prove that he is the right man to take the club forward.
Certainly, few Chelsea players appear to have emerged from this season with a lot of credit. But undoubtedly, one of those who has been outstanding has been Cole Palmer.
The 21-year-old has scored 11 goals and contributed eight assists in 23 Premier League games. He has been directly involved in 26 goals in 34 appearances for the Blues in all competitions.
Cole Palmer lauded after Chelsea move
Chelsea have definitely been vindicated for bringing the youngster in from Manchester City. And you could say the same for Palmer, who took a risk to leave the Etihad Stadium.

His talent is clear. Nevertheless, Micky Gray told the Premier League All Access podcast that he has been taken aback by just how good the attacker has been since his move from Manchester City.
“I think he’s been a bigger surprise to pretty much everybody watching the Premier League and everybody who’s watching Chelsea this time this season,” he said.
“Because I saw the ability at Man City. But I didn’t see a player who was going to play regularly, and perform and score and assist as many goals as he has done this season. He’s been breathtaking. And that little flick today just summed his season up. It was just outstanding, on a plate. He’s a special talent.”
Attacker has quickly become the Blues’ talisman
It is remarkable to see how Palmer has taken on the role of being Chelsea’s talisman. Before joining Chelsea in the summer, he had not scored and only provided one assist in 19 top-flight games.
Since scoring his first league goal for the Blues, Palmer has failed to provide a goal or assist in just seven league games.
Chelsea have understandably come in for criticism for how they have spent money on their squad over the last few years.
But there can be absolutely no doubt that the deal to sign Palmer is looking like an absolute masterstroke.
