Aston Villa are calling Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips’ ‘football’s last hope’ as Jack Grealish gets ready to depart.
Grealish going
In what looks like a heartbreaking move for Villa fans, Grealish is set to join Manchester City in the near future (Sky).
Villa’s supporters were hugely upset on social media last night and they started to discuss Phillips’ future at Leeds.
Phillips, just like Grealish, has seen his reputation rise massively in recent years, after coming through Leeds’ academy.
At the moment Phillips has made no moves to try and leave Elland Road.
And Villa fans are hoping that Phillips sticks around at Leeds and proves that loyalty does still exist in football, regardless of who comes in for him.
Contract prepared
It is, of course, impossible to predict what Phillips’ stance would be if Manchester City did try to buy him.
But Leeds are seemingly making moves to protect themselves from losing their defensive midfielder.
The Athletic suggest that Leeds could offer Phillips a new deal.
And while long-term contracts don’t necessarily mean that players will stay, as Villa fans will testify, it will at least protect Phillips’ value for Leeds.
