‘Special’ 24-year-old now looking likely to leave Arsenal in January

Journalist Mark Ogden has suggested that he can see Reiss Nelson leaving Arsenal in the January transfer window, admitting that he is not sure that he has a future at the Emirates.

Reiss Nelson has one of the toughest tasks in the Premier League. The 24-year-old is, of course, vying for a place in Mikel Arteta’s side with Bukayo Saka.

All seven of Nelson’s appearances in the Premier League this season have come from the bench.

Journalist can see Reiss Nelson leaving Arsenal in January

It has to be said that Nelson was the standout player for Arsenal in their Champions League draw with PSV Eindhoven earlier this month. He set up Eddie Nketiah’s goal and looked lively all evening.

Nelson insisted afterwards that his heart is with Arsenal as he was asked about a potential return to Feyenoord in January.

So he appears to be determined to prove to be a success at the Emirates. But, speaking to ESPN, Ogden suggested that he would not be surprised if Nelson ended up leaving next month.

“I see him moving. I think Reiss Nelson’s got to look around and think, ‘I’m not going to get a game here’. That middle tier in the Premier League, I think he could do a good job there, but I don’t think he’s going to get a top six club. Again, I don’t want to keep referencing West Ham, but this is the sort of club that’s got ambitions to go to a higher level, that’s got a bit of money and resources that would attract players from the big six clubs. Whether Reiss Nelson would get into the West Ham team, I’m not sure,” he said.

“I don’t think he’s got a future at Arsenal. I think Arsenal’s moved on. That ship has sailed for Reiss Nelson,” he added.

Winger would be wise to keep his options open

It would not be entirely shocking to see Arsenal cash in on a couple of players when the window opens. The fact that they signed David Raya on an initial loan deal in the summer hints that they may not necessarily have huge sums to spend next month.

Arsenal do want another striker. So they may have to consider some of the significant offers which come in for their players next month.

Nelson is one of the players who should attract a lot of attention. He has so much talent. And if he does leave, he will surely feel that he has something of a point to prove after being so patient in North London.

Mikel Arteta has previously noted that he is a ‘special‘ player. So he will surely not want to watch his development stagnate.

Clearly, he would love nothing more than to be a success at Arsenal. But given his ability, clubs are surely going to try and tempt him away over the coming weeks.
