Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli was on fire in the game against Sevilla in the Champions League last night.

The Gunners had a comfortable evening at the Emirates. They were dominant from the first minute till the last and killed any hope Sevilla had coming into the game. Arsenal‘s Martinelli was a thorn in their side.

Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli was unstoppable vs Sevilla

Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli came up against Sevilla’s Juanlu Sanchez on the left flank last night.

The 22-year-old Brazilian looked incredible. His pace was too much for the Spaniard to handle, and almost every time he took him on, Martinelli won.

The Arsenal number 11 completed eight dribbles against Juanlu – no defender has been beaten more times in a Champions League game during the last eight seasons.

Spanish newspaper Estadio Deportivo published their player ratings for Sevilla after the game last night, and Martinelli was mentioned on multiple occasions, the first of which was in their review of Juanlu’s performance, where they claimed the Brazilian was just unstoppable.

After giving Juanlu a 2/10 rating, ED wrote: “Suffering with Gabriel Martinelli throughout the game. He could not stop the Brazilian winger at any time. A match to forget.”

Centre-back Loic Balde was given a 4/10 rating. They wrote: “Pay attention to the cut and assist Juanlu Sánchez on the right wing due to Martinelli’s continuous attacks. He tried to impose himself by showing strength but it was insufficient.”

Sevilla manager Diego Alonso also got a rating – 1/10 – and Martinelli was mentioned there too.

“He planned a game with a defence of four but because Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli overwhelmed Kike Salas and Juanlu Sánchez changed to a defence of five in the 25th minute,” ED wrote.

“The experiment was not very successful because a few minutes later Sevilla conceded 1- 0. Nothing changed at the beginning of the second half and before making the first changes they received the 2-0. A disaster of an approach.”

Martinelli is back to his best

Like many other Arsenal players, Gabriel Martinelli has had his struggles with injuries this season.

The Brazilian missed five games in all competitions due to a hamstring problem, but he returned in style by scoring the winner against Manchester City last month.

Martinelli wasn’t at his absolute best in the following games, but the Brazilian looked absolutely phenomenal against Juanlu and Sevilla last night.

If the Brazilian can do that against most full-backs he faces in the Premier League, Arsenal will go a long way in the title race this season.
