Spanish legend Xavi says Rangers would be good fit for Jack Wilshere

A possible move to Rangers for Jack Wilshere has been backed by none other than legendary former Spain midfielder Xavi.

Since his contract was terminated at West Ham United, Wilshere has been linked with a switch to Ibrox to work under Steven Gerrard.

The manager was recently able to land midfielder Bongani Zungu on loan from French side Amiens, but a player of Wilshere’s quality may be a temptation.

That said, the player’s injury record would obviously be a concern, but in the eyes of Xavi, a move to Ibrox would be a good career move for Wilshere.

He told the Daily Record: “Rangers could be a very good fit for him. The pace in Scotland is not as fast as England and it would give him more time on the ball. That is where he excels, his vision and passing is incredible.

“They are a big club with a young coach who knows what it takes to win at the very highest level.

“There is also the chance of him having the chance to play Champions League football again. That is where every player wants to be and at Rangers he will be given the opportunity to fight to play in it.

“It would be a risk because of his injuries but if Rangers could manage to keep him fit and without injury, he would be the best player in Scotland.”

But it really is just a case of whether he’d be able to stay fit.

Xavi clearly still rates the man highly, but it would definitely be a gamble for Rangers.

If they were able to secure him on a pay-as-you-play style contract, perhaps it would be worth exploring.
