Southampton target Daniel James would be a masterstroke addition

Southampton are reportedly interested in attacker Daniel James from Championship club Swansea City.

According to the Daily Mail, the Saints and Bournemouth are among the Premier League clubs that are eyeing the 21-year-old

This comes after the Sun reported that Manchester City are keen on the Wales international, who marginally missed out on a £7million move to Leeds United in January.

There could be some fierce competition for his signature, but there is no doubt he would light up St Mary’s if Southampton won the race for him.

James is a winger blessed with tremendous pace and he seems to go past defenders like they are not there in every game.

The young wide man scored for Wales during the international break to beat Slovakia in just his second senior appearance and is a talent on the rise.

Southampton still have to fight off relegation trouble this season, but manager Ralph Hasenhuttl will need to strengthen the squad considerably regardless of if they stay up.

James certainly deserves a crack at top-flight football and is a menace for any defence to handle on his day.

The winger is extremely comfortable with both feet and Bournemouth’s David Brooks is a prime example this season that players can make the jump up from the Championship to the Premier League.

Southampton’s attack does lack creativity and firepower, but the explosive James would help solve that if the club decide to try sign him and are successful.
