Southampton are reportedly interested in Bristol City defender Adam Webster this summer.

According to TEAMtalk, the Saints are one of five Premier League teams that are keen on the enforcer from the Championship.

It is understood that Leicester City, Newcastle United, Burnley and Watford are also keen on the 24-year-old.

The report details that Bristol City are ready to cash in on him this summer and the available ace will cost around £12million to prize away from Ashton Gate.

Webster was one of the most consistent defenders in the Championship last season and he made 47 appearances across all competitions for Bristol City.

His reported £12million price tag looks a total bargain given the state of the transfer market and he could be a real hit at St Mary’s if they win the race for him.

Webster is a towering defender that has become a real force in the Championship with his power and presence at the back.

The English centre-back is composed on the ball too and definitely has the skills to step up to the top-flight for the first time in his career, after maturing in the lower leagues.

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl could do with some more centre-back reinforcements for next season and the Bristol City man looks an ideal fit.

The Saints have a habit of unearthing gems and they could be on course to do that again.
