Southampton: Talented winger linked; fan favourite could leave; Romeu injury update
Southampton will compete with Everton for the signature of Lyon winger Rachid Ghezzal, according to The Daily Mail.
The Toffees have allegedly tabled a £9million bid for the Algeria international, but it’s far from a done deal and the Saints could potentially swoop in with an offer.
Claude Puel is said to be a big fan of the forward, and Ghezzal could substantially boost the Frenchman’s options out wide moving forward this season.
The 24-year-old scored 10 and assisted eight times for Lyon last season, managing six man of the match awards.
Signing a quality winger could pave the way for Southampton to move away from a 4-4-2 diamond formation that proved unsuccessful against Manchester United.
While Ghezzal is a definite possibility, the Saints face fierce competition from across the Premier League.
In a move surprising to many, club favourite Jay Rodriguez could be on the way too West Brom on loan, reports The Telegraph.
West Brom boss Tony Pulis is a big fan of the England international and wants to bolster his worryingly thin squad before the start of the season.
Rodriguez has been plagued with a series of injuries since a spectacular 2013/14 season that saw him score once every two starts, but Pulis could offer him the chance to rejuvenate his career at the Hawthorns this season.
The West Brom manager said “We’ve got targets this summer but it’s taking time. There’s a good spirit already here but I’m keen to bring in better players to lift the squad and to make it more competitive.
Rodriguez was on the brink of breaking into the England squad before a debilitating knee injury kept him out of the entire 2014/15 campaign.
Oriol Romeu was taken off in the first half against Manchester United with an injury, but the player took to Twitter to ensure the fans knew it wasn’t as serious as first thought.

The Spaniard signed from Chelsea last summer after an impressive loan spell at Stuttgart, adding some much needed steel and aggression to the Saints midfield.
Jordy Clasie’s possible departure means that the news is particularly welcome, as the Saints would be worryingly thin in midfield without both players.
As it stands, both Clasie and academy graduate Harrison Reed would be the leading candidates to replace Romeu in the starting line-up.
