Everton are reportedly keen on the signature of Jean-Kevin Augustin in the winter. France Football is reporting that Everton could bid up to €40 million (£36 million) for the French talent as they look to give Richarlison more back-up in the goalscoring department.

This news should surely be of interest to current Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The Austrian was the RB Leipzig manager last season when the Bundesliga club bought the player from Paris Saint-Germain for €16 million (£14.5 million).

Augustin went on to score 11 goals in 37 games under Hasenhuttl in a tough but hopeful first season at the club. This season he has eight goals in 22 games so far. However, he has started only three times in the Bundesliga.

Southampton desperately need more goals. Despite the presence of Danny Ings and Charlie Austin, the Saints are one of the least prolific sides in the top-flight. Only Huddersfield Town have scored fewer goals.

Augustin is a top talent, considered one of the best young players in France and a future Les Bleus international in the making. However, it is not happening for him at Leipzig now and Hasenhuttl could offer him an exit at Southampton.

His finishing ability and pace could give Southampton an extra edge as they battle relegation.
