Southampton must acknowledge Stoke’s mistake when making Hughes decision

Southampton are in the relegation zone after 13 matches. Stoke kept Mark Hughes too long last season and paid the price.

After 13 Premier League matches, Southampton find themselves in the bottom three.

The Saints are well and truly embroiled in a relegation battle once again after picking up just one league win this season.

Mark Hughes is on borrowed time as Southampton manager but he is still yet to be sacked.

Southampton must look at Hughes’ last managerial stint when making the decision on his future.

The Welshman was in charge of Stoke City last season but the board kept faith with him for too long.

Hughes was finally sacked in January but by then, Stoke were already heading towards the Championship.

Now is the perfect time to replace Hughes at the helm. Southampton are in the bottom three but there is still plenty of time to turn things around.

Southampton need to give their new manager one month to familiarise himself with his players before the January window opens.

Stoke paid the price for keeping faith with Hughes last season and Southampton are heading in the same direction.

The south coast club must learn from Stoke’s plight and get rid of Hughes before it is too late.
