Southampton fans tear into Cedric for performance against Norwich

Cedric Soares completed 90 minutes in the win over Norwich City on Wednesday night – and some Southampton fans on Twitter raged at the defender for his performance.

The Saints picked up a vital 2-1 victory at St Mary’s in the Premier League, as it saw them climb out of the relegation zone.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have leapfrogged struggling Everton in the table and travel to Newcastle United at the weekend in their next match.

In-form Danny Ings opened the scoring for Southampton with his header, while defender Ryan Bertrand added a second just before half-time.

Norwich did fight back in the second-half with a Teemu Pukki strike, but they suffered another defeat and remain 19th in the table.

A selection of Southampton supporters on social media picked out Cedric as a major weak link in the backline and feel he was poor against Norwich.

The 28-year-old right-back could have positioned himself better for Pukki’s goal and defensively looked a little suspect.

He also spurned a good goalscoring chance with his shot in the final third and his crossing was mixed, which is why his best days appear to be behind him.

Academy graduate Yan Valery is someone battling it out for the full-back spot and there are plenty who would like to see him get the nod over Portuguese flyer Cedric.
