Southampton fans rip into ‘disgrace’ Shane Long after losing to Cardiff

Shane Long completed 72 minutes in the defeat to Cardiff City on Saturday – and many Southampton fans ripped into the centre-forward on Twitter for his performance.

The Saints suffered a crushing 2-1 loss at home, which saw them drop down into the relegation places.

Sol Bamba scored the opener for the visitors in the second-half, before Southampton defender Jack Stephens appeared to have rescued a point with a 91st minute equaliser.

But just moments later Kenneth Zohore restored Cardiff’s lead in stoppage time and handed them all three points to climb out of the drop zone.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side missed a big opportunity against a relegation rival and now have plenty of work to escape danger.

A selection of Southampton fans on social media were raging with Long for his contribution.

The 32-year-old striker lead the line for the visitors and was eventually replaced by teammate Charlie Austin.

Long’s goalscoring instinct have disappeared in recent years and he’s got just one under his belt this campaign, which is why there was no surprise to see him not get on the scoresheet at the weekend.

He struggled to find spaces in Cardiff’s rigid backline and Southampton fans were displeased with his efforts:
