Southampton fans reacted to Yan Valery’s performance against Liverpool

Yan Valery completed 90 minutes in the defeat to Liverpool on Friday night – and Southampton fans on Twitter offered a mixed response to his performance.

The 20-year-old mainly received praise for his spirited display against Reds attacker Sadio Mane, but there was some constructive criticism too on where he can improve.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side were beaten 3-1 at St Mary’s in the Premier League despite Shane Long opening the scoring.

Liverpool scored twice in the final 10 minutes to earn three points and leapfrog Manchester City to the top of the league table.

Valery has emerged as an exciting young talent for the Saints this campaign and managed to cement his spot in the starting XI.

The right-back is a speed machine that has shown he can be a real threat when joining in with the attack, but did find it difficult against a Liverpool team that dominated the ball.

He was put to the sword by the Liverpool frontline in his 19th senior appearance of the campaign and it would have been a great learning curve for him.

The French full-back has been a big favourite under Hasenhuttl and Southampton fans reacted to his latest performance.

Here are some Southampton fans on Valery’s contribution:
