In the summer, Cedric Soares was linked with a permanent Southampton exit. But he has completed his resurgence on the south coast with a goal in the crunch clash with Portsmouth.

Last night, Southampton beat local rivals Portsmouth 4-0 at Fratton Park to take the south coast bragging rights. Cedric scored Southampton’s third goal after a Danny Ings brace and before a late Nathan Redmond strike.

Cedric was sent out on loan last January with then-newly appointed manager Ralph Hasenhuttl keen to trim the deadwood. It seemed like the Portugal full-back had no way back into the Southampton team.

But through his performances in pre-season and when he has got the chance this term, Cedric has reminded Southampton fans that he can be an important player. The 28-year-old has now played five games this season and 124 times in total for Southampton.

After starting the last three games, it looks like Cedric is a permanent fixture in this Southampton team now. He scored his third Saints goal against Pompey to prove he is back to his best. Here are some fans reacting to his goal and performance.
